Forest Products has its origins from two local Companies. The factory, sawmill and production unit started life in the Forest of Dean in 1922 trading as James Joiner and Sons, building up a fine reputation for its fencing and agricultural stake materials. The installation of treatment plants in 1966 meant that the Company could offer kilning and pressure treatment services to the Trade, as well as efficiently treat its own production to the highest standards.
The present Forest Products Sales Centre at Ross Road Huntley started life in 1927 to utilize the local woodland produce. It quickly built up an excellent reputation for hand crafted, high quality gates and other timber garden products, and became a major supplier to both tradespeople and the local community.
In 1991, under the guidance of the present owners, the two Companies merged their operations, trading under the now familiar name of Forest Products Limited.
Forest Products is celebrating over 80 years of trading, and the experience gained over that period has meant that the Company has been able to maintain and further develop the high quality of their finished products, and maintain their position as the premier supplier of treated timber, fencing and gates. Traditional manufacturing methods are still employed in the joinery shops in the Forest of Dean, and drive-way, privacy and entrance gates from their extensive range are now despatched all over the Country. Timber fencing still accounts for a large proportion of the business, and the Company is justifiably proud of both the quality and variety of its production in this field.
Not a Company to stand still, new ideas and investment in modern equipment have gone hand in hand with tradition into developing the business and improving the product range. This now embraces timber decking and accessories, concrete fencing posts, decorative stone and bark, and the Company is constantly scanning the market place for new innovations.
A new sales centre was opened in Cowbridge in the Vale of Glamorgan in 1999 to service the South Wales area and has made a significant impact since trading began there. Now regarded in the area as the first call for those looking for a ‘one-stop’ pick up for all garden and fencing products, Cowbridge staff have established their Branch as a major player in the trade.
Further investment is being made at the Huntley centre, where major developments are under way to improve the ‘call-select-collect’ philosophy which has proved so successful over the years.
